Ali Whitton Scores January 2010 BMX Plus! Cover

Alistair Whitton just e-mailed us a cover of the new BMX Plus! which he shot at Fuzzy's Jam in SLC before the Dew Tour a couple months ago. Here's what Ali had to say, "I had been riding and shooting all day with Vans and we went to Fuzzy trail jam right before it got dark. I was really beat up from a long day of riding but I had to ride Fuzzy's back garden trails. The session was really fun and everyone was having a great time. This is my 9th cover, and my 2nd BMX Plus! cover."

Eyes were on the waves but minds were on the money as the $1,000,000 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing presented by Rockstar Energy Drink hit the water with day one of the Reef Hawaiian Pro - an ASP men's 6-star prime World Qualifying Series event. Subsequently, few people noticed that the bulk of the 10- to 12-foot NE swell wasn't making it around the corner into Haleiwa, and thousands lived it up in the bikini-strutting weather.

The world's first $1,000,000 surf series officially gets rolling on Oahu's North Shore today with the battle for this year's record Vans Triple Crown of Surfing presented by Rockstar's "Triple Threat" prize purse. Haleiwa plays host to the Reef Hawaiian Pro, a prime 6-star men's ASP World Qualifying Series event, and competition will get underway at 8 a.m., surf pending.

Ray Barbee's first pro skateboard graphic debuted 20 years ago when Powell-Peralta released the now famous Rag Doll graphic in 1989.  Ray's influence and attitude helped fuel a revolutionary period in skate. To pay tribute to Ray's 20 years of professional skateboarding, Vans has reissued three of his favorite shoes and we're celebrating with a kick-off at Proper in Long Beach.

Vans Announces Record $1,000,000 Surfing Prize Purse

The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing presented by Rockstar Energy Drink makes history today, announcing the Triple Crown - Triple Threat bonus purse that makes this prestigious Hawaiian series the first $1,000,000 stop on the Association of Surfing Professionals Dream Tour. More than 150 surfers from 17 nations have a crack at the loot as the series kicks off this Thursday, November 12, at Haleiwa on Oahu's North Shore.

Vans is very proud to announce that the Triple Crown - Triple Threat will award $50,000 to the men's Triple Crown series champion, an extra $50,000 for the Billabong Pipeline Masters winner, a $50,000 bonus to the ASP's men's world champion, and a $25,000 bonus to the women's Triple Crown champion. The $175,000 Triple Threat is in addition to the existing $825,000 in event prize money, making for a $1million total purse.
